Tevez appeals to league over City fine

Carlos Tevez has appealed to the Premier League over Manchester City's decision to fine him six weeks' wages.

Tevez was docked what amounts to around £1.2 million after being charged with gross misconduct in December, and earlier this month lost an appeal against the charge in front of members of the club's board.

The punishment arises from Tevez's decision to leave the country and return to Argentina, following the fallout from his refusal to warm-up during the Champions League game against Bayern Munich in September.

The Argentina international still has the option to appeal to the Premier League, however - an avenue that saw a prior fine of six weeks' wages for breach of contract reduced to just two - and has now decided to go down that route.

"The Premier League received correspondence from Carlos Tevez last night giving notice of Mr Tevez's intention to appeal against a disciplinary sanction imposed on him by his Club, Manchester City," a league statement read.

"Premier League Rules allow for Players to appeal disciplinary decisions under Section K and the Premier League Board will consider this request at the earliest available opportunity."

Although it is not yet clear when the league hearing will take place, Tevez has reportedly lost around £9.3m as a result of his antics to date.

City are eager to offload the former West Ham and Manchester United forward in the current transfer window, although it appears he will remain at the Etihad Stadium until at least the summer - after proposed deals with AC Milan, Inter Milan and Paris Saint Germain all appeared to fall through.
