Manchester City's loan signing David Pizarro has revealed he turned down Juventus to play under Roberto Mancini again.

The 32-year-old Roma midfielder completed a deal to join the Premier League leaders until the end of the season just before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

The former Chile international had attracted interest from elsewhere but a late approach from Mancini, under whom he won a Serie A title at Inter Milan in 2006, was too tempting.

Pizarro said: "It was a surprise for me because it was done pretty quickly. Of course Mr Mancini played a big part in this.

"I already had quite an advanced agreement with Juventus but when they told me about Manchester City's concrete interest, I liked the idea more.''

Pizarro spent just one season with Inter before switching to Roma but has fond memories of Mancini, who ended a 17-year wait for the scudetto at the Milan club.

Pizarro, speaking through an interpreter as he was unveiled by City on Friday, said:"I have worked with him already - I think his personality and his leadership are the main strengths.

"I remember when he arrived at Inter Milan. They hadn't won for so many years but with his input we stabilised and from then on Inter went on to trophies.''

Pizarro will increase City's options as they look to secure their first league crown since 1968. Mancini has been unable to call upon the inspirational Yaya Toure for the past month due to the ongoing African Nations Cup while fitness issues have prevented former England midfielder Owen Hargreaves claiming a place.

Pizarro accepts he may need to adapt his game but believes he is ready for immediate action.

He said:"I feel ready. The fact Man City are trying to win the league is something I like a lot. I know it is a different league and the referees tend to see the game differently, so I know it is 90 minutes full on.

"I am sure that from my years playing at the highest level in Italy and in European competitions give me enough experience to be able to contribute. It is a moment where it is important for Manchester City so I need to adapt very quickly, but I think I have got the experience to do that.''
