David Pizarro is confident he can help steer Manchester City to their first league title in 44 years.

The former Chile international, a deadline-day loan signing from Roma, hopes history will repeat itself after he was reunited with former Inter Milan boss Roberto Mancini at Eastlands.

Despite seeing his new side slump to defeat at Everton on Tuesday night, City remain top on goal difference ahead of rivals Manchester United.

City have not won the title since 1968, but Pizarro, who was part of the Inter squad that won their first Serie A title in 17 years in 2006, believes he has the chance to spark a similar golden era at City.

"The period that Inter starting winning trophies coincided with Roberto's arrival so let's hope that history repeats itself and that we start winning trophies at Manchester City," Pizarro said in the Sun.

"I arrived with City at the top of the league; they still are and let's hope we can finish the season in that place. It's a great opportunity to come here and create history. Hopefully I can come here and help them win the title."

Pizarro has been restricted to just seven appearances for Roma this season and has not played since October. However, the 32-year-old insists he is match fit and cannot wait to make his Premier League debut.

"The manager has shown great faith in bringing me here. I'm fit and ready and available for selection," he said. "I first learned of the move in the winter break, I hadn't been in the first team for a while and Roberto's staff were aware of this.

"I've been in Italy since the age of 19. I never thought I'd be changing countries and cultures. But for me, it's a real positive and a help for my career."
