David Bernstein has insisted the Football Association will not rush into appointing a successor to England manager Fabio Capello, with Stuart Pearce handed caretaker control of the side for the upcoming friendly with the Netherlands on February 29.

Capello elected to resign on Wednesday in the wake of the FA's decision to remove John Terry as captain.

With just four months to the start of the European Championship, the FA needs to find a new manager to lead the team and Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp heads the bookmakers' lists.

FA chairman Bernstein has spoken of his determination to bring in the right man, but there will be no rush with the board confident in the caretaker stewardship of England Under-21 boss Pearce.

"I can announce that Stuart Pearce will manage the England team against Holland," Bernstein said. "He has huge experience outside and inside the organisation. He has been working with the Under-21 team and has been working with Fabio for some time. I have got great confidence in Stuart, we will be in good hands.

"Our priority then will be to appoint a new England manager."

Bernstein stated the preference is for an English manager to be at the helm but there will be no rush to make a permanent appointment.

He said: "We will do this as sensibly and as soon as we can."
