Redknapp not thinking about England job

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp insists he is not thinking about the vacant England post, despite being the red-hot favourite to replace Fabio Capello.

Redknapp was widely considered to be the man to succeed Capello after Euro 2012. However, with Capello resigning on Wednesday in the wake of the Football Association's decision to remove John Terry as captain, the FA now needs to find a new manager with just four months to go before the start of this summer's European Championship.

Wayne Rooney has called for the Tottenham boss to replace the Italian, while Spurs have admitted they would struggle to prevent the former West Ham and Portsmouth boss from leaving if he wanted to.

Redknapp had previously admitted it would be "hard to turn down" the opportunity to manage England, but the day after the Spurs boss was cleared of tax evasion charges, he insists he remains fully focused on Tottenham.

"I've not even thought about it," Redknapp told Sky Sports News. "I've got a job to do; I've got a big game Saturday for Tottenham. Tottenham is my focus, I'm looking forwards.

"I was shocked. I was surprised. I didn't expect that to happen. We knew he was going to leave in the summer. I didn't expect it to happen now."

Redknapp, whose side host Newcastle on Saturday, says he owes it to the club and its fans to remain focused on Spurs.

"Tottenham have been fantastic to me," Redknapp said. "The fans last week at the Wigan game...it was incredible the reception they gave me. It wouldn't be right for them, (for me) to focus on anything else but Tottenham. That's my only interest, is Tottenham Hotspur."
