Ashley Cole and John Terry trained with the Chelsea squad ahead of Tuesday's Champions League clash with Napoli, but Andre Villas-Boas may not risk his captain.

Terry has not played since January 28 on account of a knee injury and he was still feeling discomfort last week. With Chelsea in the midst of a dire run of form, it was claimed that Villas-Boas would call on Terry in a bid to get their season back on track.

The central defender travelled with the squad and took part in a training session in pouring rain in Naples. He came through the session without alarm, but Villas-Boas will leave it late before making a decision.

Cole missed the FA Cup clash against Birmingham on Saturday due to a calf complaint. He has made good progress in recent days and could feature in the Champions League clash.

"Ashley has shown positive signs and he is in with more chance than John, who we will see how his knee feels after training and then decide," Villas-Boas said.

Arsenal's 4-0 defeat at AC Milan last week effectively ended the Gunners' interest in the Champions League, but Villas-Boas does not feel the Blues' tie with Napoli will be decided in the first leg.

He said: "Whatever happens here will not be decisive yet for the tie. Stamford Bridge is a great stadium on European nights which is why we wanted to finish first in our group so that we have this opportunity at the Bridge to turn things around, or continue on a positive result tomorrow that can happen as well.

"Tomorrow doesn't define anything. What matters tomorrow is to have full consciousness of the Napoli strengths at the San Paolo which are amazing. It is a team that has built up a lot under [Napoli manager] Walter Mazzarri and so tomorrow is all about awareness of that and hopefully we can bring a positive result to Stamford Bridge."
