Arshavin named in Arsenal reserves line-up

Andrei Arshavin will be forced to play in a reserve team game for Arsenal on Tuesday in a bid to coax the Russia international into form.

Arshavin has struggled to capture his best form in the red and white of Arsenal this season, leading to strong criticism from supporters. A recent substitute appearance against Manchester United at the Emirates even drew boos from the crowd, a situation exacerbated by his part in United's winning goal.

Arsene Wenger has always stood by his player, stating in January: "I love Arshavin as a man and as a player. I don't think the fans were too much against him, it was more they wanted [Alex Oxlade-] Chamberlain to stay on the pitch [against United]."

Arshavin was fit enough for a place on the bench in the Gunners' weekend FA Cup loss at Sunderland, but five days before they welcome Tottenham to Emirates Stadium Wenger has opted to utilise the Russia international in his second string.

Marouane Chamakh, recently back from African Nations Cup duty, and Yossi Benayoun will also play against Norwich reserves, while Carl Jenkinson continues his recovery from a back problem.
