Samir Nasri has called on his Manchester City team-mates to welcome Carlos Tevez back into the fold following his apology on Tuesday.

Tevez attempted to build bridges at City when he released a statement expressing regret at his actions, having gone AWOL in Argentina for three months following a bust-up with manager Roberto Mancini.

It is not known whether Mancini will now allow Tevez back into the first-team squad - particularly after he accused Mancini of treating him like a dog during an outspoken television interview - but the Italian boss has intimated in the past that an apology would be a step in the right direction for the striker.

And Nasri feels that Tevez has an integral part to play as City bid to get their hands on the two major trophies still available to them. "I think he is an important player for us, and [would be] for any team in Europe because he has quality … We need his quality to win the league and Europa League," Nasri said.

City are in Europa League action against Porto on Wednesday - a game which Tevez is ineligible for, as he has not been registered for the competition. City won the first leg 2-1 in Portugal.
