Daniel Agger is facing a spell on the sidelines with a suspected broken rib following Liverpool's Carling Cup final win over Cardiff.

Denmark international Agger was forced off four minutes from full time, in a game that was decided on penalties, after damaging his side. He has since withdrawn from the Denmark international squad.

Reds boss Kenny Dalglish revealed in his post-match interview that he feared Agger had suffered a broken rib, and the defender has been ruled out of the forthcoming friendly with Russia.

The news also means Agger is a major concern for Liverpool, who have some big games on the horizon. They face Arsenal in the Premier League on Saturday, followed by a trip to Sunderland and a clash with Stoke in the FA Cup.

Denmark coach Morten Olsen confirmed: "Daniel does not attend. He has sent his apologies. It is no surprise.

"We - and especially Daniel - are sorry that he cannot come but we have some others who have also done well when he has not been present."
