Sir Alex Ferguson has his fingers crossed that Michael Owen can enjoy an injury-free run and aid Manchester United's title push.

Owen has been sidelined since damaging a thigh in a Champions League clash with Otelul Galati in November.

He spoke of his delight at making a return to full training on Thursday, claiming it is "onwards and upwards".

With Owen's history of injuries, it is in the back of Ferguson's mind that the striker could suffer a setback, but he is looking for him to boost his attacking options in the final two months of the season - as United push for domestic and European silverware.

"Hopefully the lad will have a bit of luck," Ferguson said ahead of the trip to Tottenham which will come too soon for Owen. "He's not had much at all. When he has an injury it always seems to be a long one.

"Hopefully he'll be back for the rest of the season, which will help us."
