Jamie Carragher feels it is difficult to split Liverpool and Everton ahead of their FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday.

The two sides will travel down from Merseyside to the capital for their first meeting at Wembley since 1989.

While Everton have climbed the table on the back of a decent run of form, Liverpool's bid for Champions League football fell apart due to a wretched patch.

The Reds go into the game having split with director of football Damien Comolli so there is unrest at Anfield, but defender Carragher points to their 3-0 win over Everton in March as proof that they can get the job done.

"Everton are doing well at the moment," Carragher told Sky Sports News. "We had a great win at Blackburn, on the back of some not great form, but in that run of bad form we had a great win over Everton. So it is evenly balanced."

It will be an emotional weekend for Liverpool, as the game comes on the eve of the 23rd anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

Carragher added: "It is always a special weekend, this time of the year for us. It is a difficult weekend for the club in terms of the families and friends of the 96, so we will have the memorial on the Sunday and hopefully we will give them a little smile on the face with the result on Saturday."
