Milan want reduced price for Aquilani purchase

Liverpool will have to renegotiate with AC Milan if they are to sell Alberto Aquilani this summer.

Aquilani joined Milan on loan last summer with a clause inserted in the deal that he would automatically move to the San Siro permanently for €8 million (£6.4 million) should he make 25 appearances.

But Aquilani failed to make a great impact with Milan, who finished second to Juventus, making 14 starts in Serie A. With substitute games only counting for half an appearance point the 27-year-old failed to reach the threshold to trigger the full transfer.

Milan still have the option to action the transfer for the same amount before the end of the month, but vice-president Adriano Galliani has stated they will not be pursuing the deal at that price.

"We will not use our option to buy Aquilani before May 31," Galliani said. "We will re-open talks with Liverpool in June, though."

Galliani also revealed the club will not be signing another loanee in Maxi Lopez: "We are satisfied with what he has done, but we will not sign him. Maxi will return to Catania."

He also denied an interest in Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov.
