John Terry is facing a race against time to be fit for England's Euro 2012 opener with France on Monday.

The Chelsea defender tweaked a hamstring against Belgium on Saturday, although a scan suggested the problem was not serious.

It was believed that Terry proved his fitness to manager Roy Hodgson in a session on Wednesday, prior to the squad's departure to their training base in Krakow. But reports on Thursday morning claim Terry could only manage a light workout away from the rest of the squad.

England will train in Krakow on Thursday morning and Terry will be observed by the medical team. There are suggestions that had the Three Lions been playing on the opening day of the tournament on Friday, Terry would already have been ruled out. But he has an extra three days to prove his fitness.

With Gary Cahill out and Rio Ferdinand controversially not part of the squad, Terry's big-game experience is viewed as vital for England but Hodgson will be desperate to see improvement in the 31-year-old's condition.
