Porto have confirmed they may sell Joao Moutinho, but have warned suitors Tottenham that it will likely take £31.5 million to secure the midfielder.

Moutinho has been a standout player for club and country and new Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas, who worked with the 25-year-old at Porto, is a huge admirer.

Villas-Boas is yet to make contact with Porto, but they are aware of the interest and are braced for a bid. The safety net for Porto is Moutinho's release clause, believed to be £31.5, and they are ready to hold firm.

Porto boss Vitor Pereira said: "I have not spoken with Villas-Boas but it is natural that he likes Moutinho. I like him, too.

"Clubs cannot just not sell. We really want him to stay but this is football and there are release clauses.

"The only thing we can do is achieve results with what we have got."
