Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that the left back position is one he is paying particular attention to, as he looks to bring in extra cover before the Premier League season kicks off next month.

United are currently on their pre-season tour in South Africa as the Scot begins the process of readying his players for the 2012-13 season.

However, having loaned Brazilian defender Fabio to Queens Park Rangers for the forthcoming campaign and with a lack of genuine experience to back up Patrice Evra, 31, the position is one Ferguson is giving careful consideration to.

"Left back is an area we're paying attention to," said Ferguson, who has been strongly linked with a move for Everton's Leighton Baines.

"Because Evra is never injured, the opportunities haven't been there for Fabio. He is at QPR, we're just a little short in that department," added Ferguson.

"That's why we're trying Robbie Brady, and we also have Tyler Blackett."

Brady is expected to start against AmaZulu in Durban on Wednesday, with Blackett poised to make his debut on the tour and Shinji Kagawa set for his first appearance since signing from Borussia Dortmund.
