Man City given €100m De Rossi warning

Roma director of football Walter Sabatini has rejected suggestions that the club would consider offloading Daniele De Rossi, insisting it would take a bid of over €100 million to land his signature.

De Rossi, 29, has been linked with a move to Manchester City over the past few weeks and some reports had stated that Roma were prepared to sell to the Citizens for around €30 million.

The club, though, have been quick to clarify their position and Sabatini believes that even an "indecent proposal" would be difficult to consider.

"I said that, but I didn't say De Rossi was for sale," Sabatini told reporters. "De Rossi is a leader for us and therefore we never considered selling De Rossi, naturally.

"I merely pointed out that in all of football, not just De Rossi or our particular situation, when a crazy offer comes in then we will listen and evaluate.

"But we are not looking for anyone to buy De Rossi, because he is extraordinarily important for us, a player who is irreplaceable and so it would be difficult to even look at an 'indecent proposal.'"

When asked specifically about what constitutes a "crazy offer", in relation to the €30 million quoted by Fiorentina for Stevan Jovetic and Napoli's demands of €100 million for Edinson Cavani, Sabatini added: "The figure for De Rossi is higher than these you just named. Thank you."
