Mancini: Javi Martinez is too expensive for City

Roberto Mancini says Manchester City have been priced out of the race to sign Athletic Bilbao's Javier Martinez.

Mancini has spent just £15 million this summer in bringing in Jack Rodwell from Everton, but the Italian is confident he will be able to add at least one new signing before next Friday's transfer deadline.

Swansea winger Scott Sinclair looks to be on his way to Eastlands but ahead of the champions' Premier League clash at Liverpool on Sunday, Mancini has resigned himself to missing out on Spain international Martinez, who looks set to join Bayern Munich in a deal reported to be worth €40 million.

"We have another week but I think today for us it is important to think about Liverpool," Mancini said. "I am sure we will do what we want in one week.

"We are working, we can't say a name or how many players, but in the last days we will be working. Javi Martinez is difficult, his cost is too big. It is too high for me.

"I repeat, we have another week, I think we will do something in this week but for me it is more important to think about Liverpool."
