Wenger: Walcott not obsessed by money

Arsene Wenger insists Theo Walcott is happy at Arsenal and is confident the winger will sign a new contract with the Gunners.

Walcott, who has one year left on his current deal, was linked with a shock move to Manchester City earlier in the week after contract talks broke down.

Rumours of his exit were eased when he reached a verbal agreement with Wenger over his short-term future, although the England international is yet to agree to a new deal.

Wenger has poured scorn on suggestions that Walcott is obsessed by money and remains confident the club and player can find common ground.

"Theo's situation is simple - he will stay with us and play for us," Wenger said. "Theo has one year to go and that is simple. We have to find an agreement with him on whether to extend the contract for a longer period or not.

"That is what we want to do and I think Theo loves the club. Contrary to what some media write he is not obsessed by money, there is just a little difference we hope we can, at some stage, find an agreement with. That's it basically."
