Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen has said he could not have made a better choice of club when deciding upon a summer move to White Hart Lane from Ajax.

The Belgium international has also admitted that after adapting to the intensity of the Premier League he will need a "good vacation" at the end of his first season, but his enthusiasm for life at Spurs was evident when he discussed how things have gone so far.

"I think at the end of the season I will need a good vacation! But no, I love it here," the 25-year-old was quoted as saying by the Telegraph.

"The atmosphere is amazing. There are the best players in the world and we have an amazing team so I am very happy I made this decision."

Vertonghen had been linked with Arsenal and Manchester United before opting for Spurs, and he will face Sir Alex Ferguson's side at Old Trafford on Saturday.

It will not be Vertonghen's first experience of the ground however, and after a slow start to the season he believes Spurs are now hitting their stride and can come away from Old Trafford with a result.

"I played at Old Trafford with Ajax last year and it's an amazing atmosphere," he said.

"I am looking forward to my first game there with Tottenham and I think we are strong enough to do some good things there. Confidence is high now."
