Dawson ready to seize opportunity

Tottenham defender Michael Dawson will get the chance to prove his value to boss Andre Villas-Boas on Wednesday evening, as the player prepares to make his first appearance for the club since March.

Dawson was ruled out through injury for the latter stages of the 2011-2012 season and after being made Spurs captain in the wake of Ledley King's retirement during the summer was the subject of a bid from Queens Park Rangers.

A move to West London broke down after the club and player could not agree personal terms, and as Spurs ready themselves for their Capital One Cup clash with Carlisle on Wednesday Dawson is in line for his first competitive game in more than six months.

Spurs assistant manager Steffen Freund believes this is the perfect opportunity for Dawson to prove his value to Villas-Boas, after slipping down the pecking order of centre backs at White Hart Lane.

"The most important thing is how he reacts and he likes to play for Tottenham," Freund was quoted by the Sun as saying.

"When you are a strong club like Tottenham there are a lot of opportunities. Andre said that from the beginning of the season.

"It is difficult for him because he's the captain and had an offer from QPR. We are always positive from that point and we talked about it openly.

"The players who are involved at Carlisle have to play well because we have a strong squad."
