Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas has returned to former club Nottingham Forest on a month-long emergency loan deal.

Nottingham-born Jenas, 29, broke into the first-team at the City Ground in the 2001-02 season but then departed for Newcastle United in a £5 million deal.

He went on to establish himself as a full England international in 2003 and two years later moved to Spurs for an initial £7 million.

Despite enjoying some success with Tottenham, including the League Cup win in 2008, Jenas fell down the pecking order and was allowed to join Aston Villa on loan last season, although his time there was cut short by an Achilles injury.

Having made only one substitute appearance under Andre Villas-Boas, Jenas will now return to his first club as he bids to recover his match fitness. He could appear for Forest in the East Midlands derby with Derby County on Sunday.
