Hugo Lloris claims he feels "powerless" at Tottenham and has warned the club that he is not prepared to "live this situation any longer".

The France international keeper joined Tottenham from Lyon in the summer, but has found his path to a regular start at White Hart Lane blocked by the form of Brad Friedel.

At 41, Friedel has a limited lifespan as a top-flight keeper and Lloris is clearly the heir-apparent to the throne. The Frenchman claims he has respect for everyone at Tottenham but is frustrated by his role.

"It's not my motivation to be on the bench," Lloris told Stade 2. "I do not worry but I feel powerless, I want to play and I think I was brought to Tottenham for this purpose. I'm ambitious and I want to be on the pitch.

"I have respect for all the people in the club, but things are clear, I'm not here to live this situation any longer."

The France international's situation at his club has led to some to question his position with the national team. But the former Lyon man, who started for his country in their 1-1 World Cup qualifying draw against Spain, believes his position for France is not under threat.

"I think selection for France and Tottenham are two singularly different things," he said. "I did not need this match against Spain for my status as No. 1."
