Brad Friedel may well pave the way for Hugo Lloris to take the No. 1 jersey at Tottenham by revealing he is thinking about retirement.

Lloris, the France No. 1, joined Spurs in the summer from Lyon but has found the impressive form of Friedel blocking his path to the first team.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has for the most part stayed loyal to the man in possession of the shirt, Friedel, which has been a cause of frustration for Lloris.

Lloris is viewed as the long-term future for Tottenham and it may well be he has to bide his time until next summer.

At 41, Friedel admitted he felt last season would be his last and he is entertaining similar thoughts.

"I'm looking at all possibilities," Friedel is quoted as saying in the Sun. "I went into the summer sort of half expecting this year would be when the run would end. But can I complain? No.

"I don't think they envisioned what my fitness levels would be at this age. I surprised even myself."
