Kolo Toure eyes new City deal

Kolo Toure has marked his return to the Manchester City team by declaring that he wants to stay at Etihad Stadium.

Toure's City career seemed to be nearing an end in the summer, when he rejected a move to Turkish club Bursaspor and was then omitted from the club's Champions League squad.

But he has returned to favour in recent weeks, coming on when Vincent Kompany was injured in the Manchester derby and being preferred to Joleon Lescott as the captain's replacement for Saturday's 3-1 win at Newcastle.

Now Toure, a £14 million signing from Arsenal in 2009, is eager to prolong his time with the Premier League champions.

His current contract expires in the summer and, while he has been linked with a move elsewhere, he is keen to sign an extension.

He told Sky Sports: "I like it in England. I have been here for all of my career and it's great to play in England. I really enjoy it. That is why I brought my brother [Yaya] here.

"There are challenges coming and there are changes in life, and I will deal with that if it happened. I wish to stay, but you never know."

Toure was appointed captain by Mark Hughes after his arrival but lost the armband a year later, when Mancini gave it to Carlos Tevez, and missed the 2011 FA Cup final because he was serving a six-month suspension for taking a slimming pill that contained a banned drug.

He added: "The club has been here for me. Even through my tough time, everyone was behind me - the people and the staff at the club, everybody, the chairman, everybody. To have this support is great and that is why it would be much more difficult to leave."
