Jamieson sets Ryder Cup target

Scott Jamieson has set his sights on a Ryder Cup spot after claiming his maiden title earlier this month.

The Scot got the new season off to a flying start in South Africa with victory at the Nelson Mandela Championship before a third-placed finish at the Alfred Dunhill Championship a week later.

And now Jamieson has targeted qualification for the next Ryder Cup, which will be held at Gleneagles in September 2014.

The qualification process begins in September, and while Jamieson admits it will be tough to make the cut, he believes it is important to aim high.

"It's important to have big dreams, but let's just take it one step at a time," he said. "Qualifying starts in September and, obviously, you're looking at winning a couple of times. But having tasted victory I'd like to think I could throw my name into the ring for events that count towards the team.

"Look at Paul Lawrie last year. Once you get some momentum going, you never know where it will take you."

After a bright start to the new season, Jamieson is keen to hit the ground running at the Volvo Golf Champions in the New Year as he looks to break into the world's top 100.

He added: "I think the goals have changed a wee bit. I'm now within touching distance of the top 100 on the world rankings. With another couple of good weeks, I could be within touching distance of the top 70. From there you have the top 50 in your sights.

"Those kind of targets are a bit more realistic to what they were a month ago. There is a huge opportunity over the next year to make a real big move up the rankings and it's up to me to take the opportunity."
