West Bromwich Albion have turned down an improved offer from Queens Park Rangers for wantaway striker Peter Odemwingie, who is still set to face disciplinary action from the club for his Twitter outburst at the weekend.

Odemwingie, 31, who had a transfer request rejected by the club last week, vented his frustration in a series of tweets on Saturday afternoon but has since apologised, admitting the reaction was "too much".

The Nigeria international backtracked on Sunday night by tweeting: "Looked through my tweets. Deleted some. Was too much. Only excuses - home alone, dark, son and wife in hospital, frustrated.''

Although the former Lokomotiv Moscow man has shown contrition, he may still face a fine of two weeks' wages, with the Baggies confirming that statements by players on the social network site form part of the club's disciplinary code of conduct.

Queens Park Rangers are keen to land the services of the striker and had a £2 million bid turned down at the start of the window for the player. However, they are expected to make another offer before it shuts on Thursday.

Despite having said earlier this month that no senior players are for sale, Odemwingie's recent outbursts may have made his position at the club untenable.

Albion have so far declined to make any public response to Odemwingie's comments.
