Fulham are in the hunt to sign Tottenham midfielder Tom Huddlestone, although manager Martin Jol has played down the club's chances of completing a deal before the end of the transfer window.

Huddlestone, 26, has found game time hard to come by at White Hart Lane this season, playing second fiddle to the likes of Sandro and Mousa Dembele, while Lewis Holtby's arrival has only pushed him further down the pecking order.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed the former Derby man is in talks with the west London club, but is not sure how far the negotiations will progress.

"There was an interest from Fulham. I'm not sure if they're going to follow on that interest," he said. "We've allowed the club to speak to the player. He's a player we rate very highly."

Jol, though, is not feeling too confident about sorting out a deal for Huddlestone by the end of Thursday.

"I think it is awful to get a permanent transfer for someone like Tom Huddlestone on the last day," he said. "I started five weeks ago and that won't happen on the last day."

Elsewhere, one deal that could be completed before the deadline is Urby Emanuelson's arrival on loan from AC Milan.

Asked if he was close to signing the Netherlands international, Jol nodded and said: "It is a loan until the end of the season. It is not easy to get players from AC Milan on a permanent basis. I coached him at Ajax. He is a skilful player, very agile. He is very mobile, quick. He can play left midfield, wide, play number ten, so I feel we need fresh legs."
