West Ham have confirmed that captain Kevin Nolan exacerbated a toe injury during Monday night's defeat by Spurs.

The club said Nolan's toe was broken and while he will certainly miss Saturday's clash with Stoke City but a spokesman said earlier reports he might be absent for six to eight weeks are "wide of the mark,".

"His toe is very, very sore," West Ham assistant manager Neil McDonald said. "He's had problems with it all season really and he has been playing through the pain barrier. And he got a real good kick on it.

"I'd imagine he won't be available for Saturday and then we'll see where he's at. It's probably worse than it has been with him having the kick right on it."
