Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard hailed his 200th goal for the club as a "one of the best days" of his glittering career.

Lampard reached the milestone after latching onto an Eden Hazard cross to score his side's first goal in the 2-0 defeat of West Ham United - the club at which Lampard began his career.

The victory moved Chelsea into third position on the Premier League table.

And despite Lampard's bulging trophy cabinet - which includes Premier League, FA Cup and a Champions League medal - the 34-year-old said this would be a day he would long savour.

"It is one of my best days," Lampard told the BBC. "Obviously, winning the Champions League and championships are the best, but personally getting 200 goals for the club, I never thought I would touch that so I am pleased to get it.

"It's special. It's obviously a landmark I've been getting towards," Lampard added when he spoke to Sky Sports.

"I'm just pleased to get there and pleased it's an important goal for the team.

"I've been very fortunate to play for the club for a long time here with great players and players who put the ball on a plate sometimes for you like Hazard did there so I'm thankful."

And Lampard said he hoped now that he had reached the milestone, people would start to focus on Chelsea's push for more silverware.

"Everyone keeps talking about the goalscoring record, I would rather people kept quiet. The important thing is trying to score goals to win games.

"We are in good form and everyone is at it. There is a good feeling around the place and we need to carry it on until the end of the season."

But if Chelsea are to claim more trophies by the end of the season, Lampard knows the squad will have to be at its ruthless best, not missing chances like the one he sent sailing in the dying moments against West Ham.

"I'm really annoyed, I won't sleep tonight," Lampard said.

"I love scoring goals and I love being able to arrive in the box. I think I relaxed a bit on that one and skied it over the bar."
