John Terry has hailed Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard as the greatest player in the club's history.

The midfielder scored a header in Sunday's 2-0 win over West Ham United to reach 200 goals for the club, and is now only two behind Bobby Tambling's record.

Speaking in the Evening Standard, Terry said Lampard has already surpassed the likes of Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola, while likening him to Ryan Giggs at Manchester United.

"You talk about Zola and the best players to have played at the club but, for me, he [Lampard] is certainly the best," Terry said. "It's incredible the number of goals he has scored at a high level, the Champions League and Premier League. It's his hunger as well.

"You can only single out two players to play consistently well and to score goals over the course of the last 10-15 years and that is him and Ryan Giggs. The willingness he has shown to improve and try to reach these records is fantastic. He is an example to all the players here and we're all hoping he does it."

Despite widespread expectation that Lampard will leave Chelsea in the summer, former boss Avram Grant feels the England international will stay at the club for another year.

"Frank is good for Chelsea," Grant said on talkSPORT. "He is like Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs for Manchester United. He is good in the dressing room. He is ambitious to win titles, which I think all the young players at Chelsea need. There is some good talent that needs that winning mentality Frank can bring. I have a feeling that Frank will stay at Chelsea for one more year at least."
