Sergio Aguero has apologised to David Luiz for his two-footed challenge during Sunday's FA Cup semi-final against Chelsea.

The Manchester City striker was not sent off for the controversial tackle which saw the Argentina international catch the defender high on his left leg. On Monday, he was not charged by the FA.

Aguero was on the score sheet in City's 2-1 victory over Chelsea to see them reach the final, and Luiz was lucky not to suffer a serious injury for the foul.

After the game Luiz said Aguero should come out and say sorry. However, on Tuesday night Aguero tweeted: "I've contacted David Luiz and apologised for what happened during the match. It was an impulse reaction that shouldn't have happened."

The FA were unable to hit the 24-year-old with a punishment as referee Chris Foy said he saw a part of the incident.
