David Luiz has accepted the apology of Sergio Aguero for his controversial two-footed tackle during Chelsea's FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City.

Aguero had used social media on Tuesday to reveal that he had contacted Luiz to apologise for his reckless challenge on him, and Luiz used the same medium to accept the Argentine's apology and praised his "demonstration of character".

Aguero caught Luiz with an ugly tackle during City's 2-1 victory on Sunday, infuriating the Brazil international, who immediately urged the the 24-year-old to apologise.

Taking to Twitter, Aguero did just that and said the tackle had been a rash "impulse".

"I've contacted David Luiz and apologised for what happened during the match. It was an impulse reaction that shouldn't have happened," he wrote.

Luiz reponded, also through Twitter, by writing that Aguero had shown the character of a "great man".

"Thank you Sergio Aguero for a demonstration of character. We get to know great man and athletes this way," he wrote.

Aguero escaped any sanctions after the match, with the FA confirming that it would not follow up on the incident.
