Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed Jack Wilshere will undergo ankle surgery that will rule the midfielder out of England reckoning this summer.

Wilshere returned to action this season following a long spell on the sidelines and delivered a string of impressive displays.

However, he was struck down by injury in March and Wenger has confirmed the 21-year-old will have a procedure to remove a pin inserted during a previous operation.

"He will have small mild surgery after the season," Wenger said. "At the moment Jack plays with painkillers and I use him only when it is really needed.

"It is a very small, small, small one (operation), taking out a pin. It is a two to three weeks job. It will not be a problem."

Wilshere is likely to be on the bench for Arsenal's crucial clash against FA Cup winners Wigan at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, as they continue their push for a top-four spot.
