United target Lewandowski wants out

Robert Lewandowski has said he still wants to leave Champions League runners-up Borussia Dortmund despite the club saying they would not sell him to Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.

On Sunday, club officials said the 24-year-old Poland international would not be joining Bayern - who beat Dortmund in the final at Wembley - sparking speculation that he could instead move to a Premier League club or Real Madrid.

Dortmund chief executive Aki Watzke said Bayern had not yet made an offer for Lewandowski, telling Bild: "I'm not saying he will definitely stay. But he will certainly not join Bayern in 2013.

"In the next few days, we will discuss everything with Robert and his agents. That is out of common respect."

But speaking at an event in Warsaw, Lewandowski said he still wanted to move and added: "He [Watzke] recently told me something different. He knows what I wish for. He has promised me that I will be allowed to leave, and now something different happens.

"But I think everything will change. In my opinion, this is not the last decision and I believe everything will change and come to a good conclusion. Everyone at Borussia Dortmund knows what I want and where I want to go to."

Asked whether he could imagine playing in Spain or England, Lewandowski replied: "One day."

Bayern's honorary president Franz Beckenbauer wrote on Twitter that he could understand Dortmund's decision not to let Lewandowski leave but added: "I am curious how this can work for a year when he wants to join FCB."

Bild Zeitung reported that Dortmund could offer the striker a huge wage increase to stay for the final year of his contract, almost trebling his current annual salary of €1.5 million.

But ESPN understands that Lewandowski and his agents have turned down an even better offer from the club.
