Carroll set for West Ham medical

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll will undergo a medical with West Ham on Tuesday ahead of a proposed transfer to Upton Park according to Press Association reports.

Carroll, 24, is not part of manager Brendan Rodgers' long-term plans at Anfield and spent last season on loan with the Hammers where he scored seven goals in 24 appearances.

The England international has been out of the country on holiday but it is understood he will fly back in order to complete a physical assessment.

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce was quoted on Sunday as saying that a deal had been struck to bring Carroll to Upton Park and he expected a decision from the former Newcastle striker by the end of the week, while the club's co-owner David Gold had also tweeted that he was confident of signing the player.

The signing will represent a considerable coup for West Ham, who are looking to add two new strikers to their squad this summer. And for Liverpool the departure of a player signed for £35 million in January 2011 will aid Rodgers' attempts to revamp the options available to him.

They have been linked with a move for Shakhtar Donetsk's Armenia international Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet.
