Carroll set to complete West Ham move

Liverpool striker Andy Carroll is set to complete a £15 million move to West Ham after undergoing a medical.

The 24-year-old has agreed to move to Upton Park almost a month after the two clubs agreed a fee for him.

Carroll was scheduled to have a medical on Tuesday, having returned to England following a holiday, and the transfer is due to be completed this week.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has no place in his long-term plans for Carroll, who was signed from Newcastle by previous boss Kenny Dalglish for £35m in January 2011.

He is hoping to use the money from selling Carroll to help fund his summer transfer spending, with a £7.7m deal for Celta Vigo striker Iago Aspas about to be ratified and moves in place for Sunderland goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Sevilla forward Luis Alberto and Sporting Lisbon central defender Tiago Ilori.

West Ham co-owner David Gold took to Twitter last week to declare that he was confident of signing Carroll, while manager Sam Allardyce was quoted over the weekend as saying that a deal was close.

The England forward spent last season on loan at Upton Park, scoring seven goals.
