Pardew: I'm staying at Newcastle

Alan Pardew has confirmed his intention to continue as manager of Newcastle United amid speculation he may be about to resign.

The 51-year-old was speaking during what has been a turbulent week for the Magpies, in which Joe Kinnear was appointed as the club's new director of football on a three-year-deal.

A controversial character, the 66-year-old's presence has already riled the majority of the club's fans, following his infamous spell as interim manager during 2008-2009, during which he swore at journalists and fell out with players.

That news was followed by confirmation from Derek Llambias that he would be stepping down from his role as managing director - something Kinnear had previously confirmed in an interview with talkSPORT.

With manager Alan Pardew understood to be shocked by the news of Kinnear's arrival, speculation had begun to mount that he would be looking to walk away from St James' Park this summer.

However the former West Ham boss, who endured an arduous second season on Tyneside, has pledged his future to the club telling the Evening Chronicle: "I am staying - to take the club up the league."

The news will serve as relief to Newcastle fans who are still digesting the events of the last week. With club officials set to meet a number of supporters group this week, the appointment of Kinnear is likely to be high on the agenda.
