Newcastle manager Alan Pardew will remain as the club's "public face when addressing supporters", director of football Joe Kinnear has said.

Kinnear, 66, a former Newcastle manager, was appointed last week, sparking speculation over Pardew's future.

Kinnear, who will consult with Pardew and chief scout Graham Carr on transfers, told the Evening Chronicle: "The public face when addressing the supporters via the media will be Alan Pardew."

The paper reported that St James' Park coaches Steve Stone and John Carver, considered integral members of Pardew's staff, would be staying.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have confirmed their pre-season schedule, with visits to Portugal and Scotland planned.

The first pre-season game will be against Motherwell on July 16, followed by pre-season training in Portugal and fixtures against Rio Ave and Pacos de Ferreira.

After returning to England, they travel to Bloomfield Road to face Blackpool, with SC Braga heading to St James' Park on August 10.
