Cavani tells Mum and Dad to keep schtum

In-demand Napoli striker Edinson Cavani has told his family to stop talking to the media about his future as he feels their comments are harming his reputation.

Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid have all been linked with a big-money move for the Uruguay international this summer.

And both of Cavani's parents have dropped contrasting hints to the media as to where their son may end up playing next season.

The 26-year-old, however, has urged his mother and father to remain tight-lipped when it comes to a potential summer sale as he feels it is disrespectful to his club.

"This is a good opportunity to tell the world that when my family speaks, that isn't Edinson Cavani speaking," Cavani told Marca. "I've asked my family thousands of times to please not talk anymore because it harms me. I belong to Napoli and everything depends on that club."

Cavani went on to reiterate his desire to join one of Spain's top sides, even though reports suggest that Premier League side Chelsea have agreed to pay close to €58 million to sign the striker.

The Naples-based Radio Marte suggested on Monday evening that the Blues had struck a deal with Napoli to sign Cavani, although the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti at Madrid may prove to be the catalyst for a fresh bid from the Spanish club.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that he had an offer on the table from Madrid for his prized asset, and with City refusing to pay Cavani's asking price, it looks like a battle between Jose Mourinho's Chelsea and his former employers at Madrid for the player's signature.

"Real is one of the best clubs in the world and when we're kids, we dream about playing at a team like Madrid or Barca," Cavani said. "But there is no deal. Right now, I'm at Napoli and I'm very proud to be there. If I leave one day, I'll be ready to move to a bigger club. We'll see."

Napoli are reportedly waiting for a club to match Cavani's €63 million release clause - a clause that expires on August 10.

The former Palermo man, though, feels the fee is an unrealistic one and is hoping to sit down with De Laurentiis to iron out any problems that could prove to get in the way of a deal being completed.

"I don't think I'm worth €63 million. I will have to talk to De Laurentiis about it. I owe a lot to Napoli and I want to leave through the front door if I move on," Cavani said. "I am feeling very good at Napoli, but it all depends on the club. We will have to wait and see what options I have. What I want to do is sit down face-to-face with the club president and decide my future together."
