Stoke striker admits betting on matches

Cameron Jerome, the Stoke City striker, could miss the first month of the new season after admitting he broke the FA rules on gambling.

Jerome is reported to have placed bets on top-flight games although there is no suggestion they involved any matches involving Stoke City.

He faces an Independent Regulatory Commission before the start of the season and is likely to be hit with a hefty punishment.

The FA has a zero-tolerance policy on betting and its rules are clear that no official or player can bet on any league or cup competition in which they are involved, even if their club have already exited that tournament.
