Inter Milan have confirmed their admiration for Rafael Benitez, as the Spaniard edges towards the Liverpool exit door.

Widespread reports on Thursday morning claimed Benitez had been sacked as manager of Liverpool, bringing an end to his six-year tenure at Anfield.

There has been no word from the club or the Spaniard, with it being claimed a severance package is being thrashed out.

The rumour mill, meanwhile, has cranked into gear as to Benitez's next move and Inter, looking for a replacement for Jose Mourinho, have put themselves forward as potential suitors.

"We really like Rafa Benitez and he is in our favour since the Champions League final in Istanbul," Inter director Gabriele Oriali told Corriere dello Sport, in reference to Liverpool's amazing win over Inter's city rivals Milan in the Champions League final.
