Liverpool could miss out on loaning Chelsea defender Ryan Bertrand in January due to the breakdown of Victor Moses' time at Anfield.

Manager Brendan Rodgers fought off several Premier League clubs to secure Moses for the season, but the attacker has only started six Premier League games so far.

Moses was substituted at half time during Liverpool's FA Cup third round win over Oldham, with Rodgers later hinting he had to turn to his star players to finish the job.

And with Moses failing to fire on all cylinders, Chelsea are thought to be less than impressed with the winger's progress, according to reports in the British media.

As a result Rodgers, who was head youth coach at Stamford Bridge during Mourinho's first spell in West London, could be thwarted in his attempts to sign the out-of-favour Bertrand as relations strain under current transfers.

Meanwhile, Liverpool could be handed a fitness boost after Daniel Sturridge went through an intensive training session at Melwood on Monday.
