Liverpool defender Aly Cissokho has said he still hopes to force his way into the France squad for next summer's World Cup.

Cissokho, 26, won his sole international cap to date in a friendly against Norway in August 2010 while he was at Lyon.

The full-back has since moved to Valencia and then on to Anfield on loan from the Spanish club last summer without catching the eye of Didier Deschamps.

However, the former Porto man, who has played seven Premier League games this season, remains optimistic he can sneak in ahead of Manchester City's Gael Clichy as back-up to first-choice left-back Patrice Evra when Deschamps selects his squad for Brazil.

"The World Cup is something special. You have to give yourself every chance with your club to try and go there. Evra is a step ahead, but a second will be needed to replace him," Cissokho told RMC.

"Gael has often been called up. But you never know. By staying focused in matches and in training, by taking care not to get injured, I can show to the coach that I could have a place. I believe I can do it, of course."
