Rooney out for United, Vidic returns
Wayne Rooney has failed to shake off a groin injury for Manchester United's Capital One Cup semi-final first leg tie at Sunderland.
Robin van Persie also remains on the sidelines, with Danny Welbeck continuing up front while Javier Hernandez drops to the bench.
Patrice Evra, Nemanja Vidic and Rafael return to boost United's defence, with only four of the team who started the 2-1 FA Cup defeat at home to Swansea retaining their places.
