ESPN FC: Moyes goes scouting

Nemanja Vidic is ready to stay at Manchester United and sign a new deal, according to his friend and former Serbia team-mate Mateja Kezman.

The United captain is out of contract in the summer and his agent, Silvino Martina, had said the 32-year-old is likely to end his eight-year career at Old Trafford.

Vidic has been linked with a host of clubs, including Juventus, Roma, Napoli, Monaco and Galatasaray, although the Turkish club's manager Roberto Mancini has insisted he will not try to sign the centre-back in the January transfer window.

But United are keen to keep Vidic and former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain striker Kezman expects him to stay in England.

He told talkSPORT: "Nemanja Vidic is a top player and big friend of mine. I spoke to him a few months ago and he said then that he was waiting to see what will happen with his contract.

"I would give him a new contract. It's true he's not the player he was a few years ago, he's a bit injury-prone, but he's still a leader. Manchester United need him in the dressing room, around the young players.

"He's not unhappy. He's been there for years and would like to stay for another season. He loves the club, the city, the fans, everybody. I'm sure he will do his best to stay at United if they offer him a contract."
