Everton defender Phil Jagielka will miss England's friendly with Denmark after picking up a hamstring injury.

Jagielka is out of his club's Premier League home match against West Ham this Saturday because of the problem, manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed.

Martinez expects Jagielka to be missing for the next fortnight, ruling him out Roy Hodgson's squad for the Wembley meeting with Denmark on March 5. England boss Hodgson is set to name his squad for the game later on Thursday.

"Phil Jagielka has felt his hamstring a little bit over the last two days. He's going to miss the game at the weekend and he won't be available for England," Martinez said. "I don't think it's going to be a long-term injury, but Phil is going to be missing for a couple of weeks."

It is the second time this season that Jagielka has been forced out of action with hamstring trouble. He missed three matches after picking up a similar injury during Everton's 1-0 defeat at home to Sunderland on December 26.

Meanwhile, Martinez has suggested that Gareth Barry's form in Everton's midfield warrants an end to his 21-month England exile.

Barry last played for England in May 2012, but has been a key player for Martinez since joining on a season's loan from Manchester City in September.

"I think that Gareth is ready to help England," Martinez said. "The experience he brings is quite unique. It would be a great honour if he got a recall."
