Luis Suarez has been advised to leave Liverpool and join their fierce rivals Manchester United.

Speaking to Brazilian sports newspaper Lance!, Suarez's countryman and former United striker Diego Forlan revealed he had spoken to the Reds forward about ditching Anfield for Old Trafford.

"We spoke a few days ago," Forlan told Lance!. "He asked me if I think he should stay at Liverpool.

"All I told him was to think about going to Manchester United. I know he loves Liverpool, the fans and the city, but I think the best thing for his career would be to move to Old Trafford."

Suarez has been in superb form this season and his 29 league goals have helped Brendan Rodgers' side challenge for what would be their first top-flight title since 1992.

Last summer, the striker - who missed the first six games of the season after he was given a 10-match ban for biting Cheslea's Branislav Ivanovic last April - was heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool, with both Real Madrid and Arsenal linked with the 27-year-old.

Arsenal had a £35 million bid for Suarez rejected and then suffered further humiliation when a second bid of £40,000,001, thought to trigger a release clause in the forward's contract, was again turned down.

Forlan, who spent three years at United, is currently playing for Cerezo Osaka after signing an 18-month deal with the Japanese side.
