Inter Milan general director Marco Fassone has confirmed his club will consider making a move for out-of-favour Chelsea striker Fernando Torres at the end of the season.

  • Diego Simeone has suggested that Fernando Torres could return to the club he was 'born' at, Atletico Madrid.

The Argentine manager has been in contact with Torres, whose Chelsea side face Atletico in the Champions League semi-finals, and revealed that the striker and former club captain continues to send the squad messages of support, according to the Daily Mail.

"Torres is always in contact with the team to wish them luck and occasionally sends me messages. He is delighted with everything that's happening at Atleti.

"How could he not want to return to the club where he was born?"
Despite Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho making several critical comments about his strike force, Torres in particular, he later insisted the Spaniard has a future at Stamford Bridge.

While Torres is keen to prove Mourinho wrong - and seemingly has the backing of strike partner Demba Ba - Inter are keen to secure the services of the out-of-favour 30-year-old.

"He [Torres] is one of the names that interests us," Fassone told the Daily Mirror, while he also hinted at a move for the striker on the official Inter Milan website last weekend.

"Erick Thohir, our president, admitted that a few days ago. You will discover in due course exactly which players we are focusing on bringing to the club."

Mourinho's decision to leave Torres out of his line-up for the Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain last month despite his lack of striking options was viewed by many observers as proof that his days at Stamford Bridge are numbered.
