Adnan Januzaj believes Manchester United can put the dark days of the David Moyes era behind them as he insists the future is finally looking brighter after the appointment of Louis van Gaal as manager.

The Dutchman, who signed a three-year deal on Monday, will officially take charge at United at the end of the World Cup when his duties as Netherlands coach are over.

United have just endured their worst season for a quarter of a century, finishing seventh in the Premier League and failing to win any silverware, with Moyes sacked just 10 months into a six-year contract after Sir Alex Ferguson chose his fellow Scot as his successor.

However 19-year-old Januzaj is optimistic United will soon be able to put the memories from a dismal campaign out of their minds.

"He [Van Gaal] is an excellent coach, who has won a lot of prizes," Januzaj told HLN in Belgium. "I think United is facing a bright future."

United's most decorated player Ryan Giggs ended his 23-year playing career to take up a role as Van Gaal's assistant, a move welcomed by Januzaj.

He added: "Giggs is very important to us. He gets a lot of respect and also helps me constantly."
