Vela aware of Arsenal talks
Carlos Vela says he will have to think long and hard before deciding to make a return to Arsenal this summer.
When Vela joined Real Sociedad in 2011, Arsenal reportedly retained the right to re-sign the Mexico international for just £3.2 million. That price looks tempting now after Vela scored 16 goals in 37 La Liga games last season.
The two clubs are said to have opened talks with Sociedad this week offering around £4.9m to buy out the clause. Arsenal are said to want twice that amount to relinquish their hold on the player.
The future of Vela's £24.3m-rated team-mate Antoine Griezmann, who is also interesting Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, could come up during the discussions.
"The club [Sociedad] is working so that I stay here," Vela told AS. "I am working on it in my own way too. But there is still not anything concrete, it is not anything that is ready to be closed. There is still time for it to be done."
Asked what he would like to happen, the 25-year-old said he was not yet sure. He said: "I wanted to finish the season well, in the best form, I wanted to have some days to think about what to do, where would be my best option, what is the best for my future, and then decide.
"As of today I have not decided anything, nor have I said anything. These days I will rest to mentally rest and analyse what is the best thing to do."
Despite prompting, Vela refused to commit his future to Sociedad. "I am here, it has been good, I have enjoyed myself a lot," he said. "I cannot say if this is the first or the last option, but it is clear it is one of my options.
"I am very happy here, I have enjoyed every moment I have been in San Sebastian, because I have some incredible team-mates who have made me happy every moment. Being happy here for sure plays a part in analysing what to do."
